To get admission into IIT after class 12th, candidates have to first appear and qualify for the JEE Main entrance exam, after qualifying for JEE Main, the next step is to appear for JEE Advanced exam. Candidates who are qualified JEE Advanced exam will be eligible to participate in the admission process at IITs.
There are a total of 23 IITs in India, the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was set up in 1951 in Kharagpur.
